That was pretty funny.
On Jan 11 I think I might... look into a mirror... decorate it with myself. :P
I knew my memory was fuzzy! It turns out that that's just what the words "kagami biraki" translate to. I have no idea why it is called that, but they just break a piece of mochi (Japanese rice-based treat) and eat it. Dang, the name makes no sense. Disappointing, I know.
Ahh... that might be a bit more difficult to accomplish. Good knowing though.
New Zealand has Labour Day on "the Fourth monday of October" which was October the 27th this year. Conveniently, this happens to be a real public holiday that people actually take a break from their jobs on. But, unfortunately, it changes every year, so it might be a bit difficult to put on this list.
Well, I have been trying to do only this year, with Leap Day as an exception, so I could put that one in when I get to October.

Woo, 31 intriguing reasons to celebrate so far! :D Any idea what 鏡開 means?

Yeah, I only put in holidays I know about. That's the Kagami Biraki, a celebration where people in Japan decorate mirrors. I don't understand it very well, but that's what they do. I learned about that one 20 years ago in kindergarten for a Japanese culture presentation.
